1 lb flour
1/2 lb brown sugar
1/2 lb butter
1/2 lb treacle (molasses)
4 tsp ground ginger
Sift flour and ginger and mix with sugar. Melt butter, add treacle. Bring to a boil, and pour onto dry ingredients. Work up paste while as hot as hands can bear, roll out to a inch or less in thickness.
Mark in squares with a knife and bake in a slow oven. Separate the squares while soft and they will soon go crisp. |
